A flood vent is a type of trap door that is placed in the lower portion of a building. Some of these vents are designed with louvers so they can be used for ventilation as well as for flood control. The purpose of these vents is to allow rising water a way to pass through a structure without building up internal pressure, which can lead to structural damage .
How does this work? Firstly, there needs to be a certain amount of vents for a specific amount of space. There are the two kinds of vents, one with louvers and one without. These vents are regulated by floats, so when water rises to a certain point, the float will lift and rotate the vent so that water may pass through freely.
It's never too soon to make sure your building is protected from flooding. Avoiding water damage is one of the best things you can do for your property. Proper flood vents will save money and your peace of mind.
