When looking at the aftermath of fire or flood damage in
your home or business, it can be overwhelming.
You’re not sure what to do first.
You’re not only dealing with an incredible loss in terms of valuables
and possessions, but may also be looking at thousands of dollars in repair
costs.
The good news is that your home can be restored to its
original beauty, and that in many cases, homeowners insurance will cover most
of the costs. The one gray area is with
flood damage, and any homeowner would do well to meet with their agent and see
what is and is not covered. In most
cases, additional coverage can be had for a nominal price.
Fire and water restoration jobs are best left to
professional companies, well versed in the exact science that is known as fire
and water restoration, highly trained, and proficient on the latest equipment
and procedures. They will be able to fully
assess the damage to your home following flood or fire damage, remove the soot
or excess water from your home, and perform whatever tasks are necessary to
return your home to its original state.
Now the caveat…not all fire and water restoration companies
are created equal. Choose the wrong one
and you could end up with thousands of additional dollars in repairs and a bad
situation made much worse.
For security, choose a company certified by the Institute
for Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification. The IICRC was formed 30 years ago as the
governing body for the industry, establishing standards, procedures, and
certification for those who do this kind of work. Don’t trust your home to anyone without an
IICRC seal.
