San Antonio TX Basement Flooding

I’ve long held the belief that whoever comes up with a perfect basement waterproofing method is going to become a veryflooded_basement.jpg wealthy person.   Basement flooding clean up is going to be in the future of most everyone who owns a basement, since 98% of basements will suffer some form of water damage.

It’s to be expected of course…..basements are the lowest lying areas to be found in any home or business, and excess water runs downhill.  No matter what part of the world you are in 2+2=basement flooding.

There is nothing you can do to stop your basement leaking, or flooding, or whatever, but you can take steps designed to minimize it.  You can install a sump pump, which is designed to filter out excess water and drain it far away from your home.  See diagram to the right for a basic sump pump setup.

You can also be proactive in inspecting your home for potential problems. Even the smallest leak can become a lake if left unattended for too long.  Check for broken window seals, leaky pipes, back up drains, or cracked foundation walls, basicallyflooded_basement2.jpg anything that can allow access to your basement by water.  Repairing them as they occur will go a long way towards minimizing any damage.

You should also watch what you keep in your basement.  Move valuables to a higher floor.  Elevate appliances and power outlets at least 12 inches.  Try to anticipate what sort of damage 6 inches of water might do.

Of course if the worst happens and you do end up with, shall we say, waterfront property, treat it as you would any other water damage problem.  Remove the excess, using a shop-vac or submersible pump (and remember to pump it out slowly but steadily).  Then use high velocity fans and dehumidifiers to remove the residual moisture and bring humidity down to acceptable levels.

Of course for best care of your flooded basement problems, call your local IICRC certified water damage restoration company.  They are available 24/7 to service all your water damage repair needs.
